Daredevil Star Teases Kingpin Rematch In the MCU

Despite Marvel Studios' penchant for playing with genres, there is one constant within the MCU: interconnectivity. Every character and storyline somehow has - or eventually will - affect the other; and as the MCU expands through series on Disney+, so do those opportunities. However, that same rule hasn't applied to Marvel's first go at television shows like Agents of SHIELD , Jessica Jones , and Inhumans ; that is, until Matt Murdock and Kingpin from Netflix's Daredevil made their MCU debuts.  Daredevil was a Marvel Netflix series that ran from 2015 through 2018 and starred Charlie Cox as Marvel hero Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer and masked vigilante in New York City. One of his antagonists was the iconic comic book crime lord, Wilson Fisk or Kingpin, played by Vincent D'Onofrio.  ADVERTISEMENT Following its cancellation in 2018, fans of the show and other Marvel Television entries were frustrated over its lack of MCU connections and

The Marvel Cinematic Universe ended its Disney+ run on a high note last year thanks to  Hawkeye . The show saw Jeremy Renner's Clint Barton and Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop trying to clean up a big Ronin-sized mess before Christmas day. Their story was a fun, emotional, and action-filled romp. Not only that, but it brought back one of the biggest Marvel villains in recent years: Kingpin. Vincent D'Onofrio's organized crime lord was last seen back in Netflix's  Daredevil  before it was canceled. Fans always hoped for the actor and character to return but never knew if that dream had the chance of coming true. ADVERTISEMENT Thanks to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, those prayers were answered, and the MCU got its own updated and redefined Wilson Fisk. This time around, he was bigger, more resilient, and fashioned Hawaiian shirts. According to one of the show's directors, audiences may have seen the big bad gain even more we

Hawkeye is filled with many interesting characters, and one of them is Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin from Netflix's Daredevil series. D'Onofrio's return has been the subject of many rumors leading to Hawkeye' s debut, and it was ultimately confirmed at the tail-end of the show's fifth episode. In the series, the crime boss was revealed as the big bad pulling the strings behind the Tracksuit Mafia while also diving deep into his emotional connection to Alaqua Cox's Maya Lopez.  Before Hawkeye , D'Onofrio portrayed Fisk in the  Daredevil  series for three seasons from 2015 to 2018. Given that the show's ties to the MCU is one of the burning questions of fans, D'Onofrio's potential debut in the universe of Earth's Mightiest Heroes has been the subject of debate.  ADVERTISEMENT However, despite D'Onofrio having cemented the fact that his Kingpin in Hawkeye  is the same one from the Netfl

Hawkeye Season 1 has come to a close, and there has been no word as to if the series will continue with a second outing. The bow-wielding streaming series introduced the world to future MCU stalwart Kate Bishop (portrayed by Hailee Steinfeld), while also serving as a way of honoring Jeremy Renner's OG Avenger Clint Barton. Throughout the project's six episodes, fans came across both new and returning faces, including Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin.  D'Onofrio returning to the role of Wilson Fisk was a big deal, as it meant yet another of the Netflix Marvel characters has made the jump into the MCU proper. Fisk served as the main antagonist in Netflix's  Daredevil  series, as the big guy butted heads with Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock.  ADVERTISEMENT Now, despite Kingpin only appearing in the last couple episodes of  Hawkeye,  his shadow loomed large over the series as he worked behind the scenes of the Tracksuit Mafia. Villains are a big part of what makes superhero films work. As people say, the hero is only as strong as their antagonist. From Tom Hiddleston’s Loki to Josh Brolin’s Thanos and Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger—the MCU has plenty of iconic figures on that front. Recently, another big bad re-entered the spotlight, one who hadn’t been seen since his show’s cancelation in 2018: Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin. Wilson Fisk showed up in Marvel Studios’ recent streaming series Hawkeye , where it was revealed that he was the big man behind the curtain. Leading the Tracksuit Mafia, the crime boss eventually crossed paths with Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye and Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop. Fans were over the moon to see both the actor and character back on screen. ADVERTISEMENT D’Onofrio’s performance has been heavily praised since he first debuted in Daredevil , and his dynamic with Charlie Cox is a part of some of the best superhero content out there. Kingpin Actor Reveals How Much Weight He Gained for Hawkeye

Marvel Studios' Hawkeye finished off the MCU's biggest year of content in history, and just the way other projects have done all year, the show ended with a bang. That bang came mostly courtesy of Vincent D'Onofrio, who reprised his role as Wilson Fisk, aka the Kingpin of Crime, in a Disney+ series after first playing the role in Netflix's Daredevil for three years. Throughout his run in Marvel Comics and his live-action stories, Kingpin has been known as one of the most physically dominant villains in franchise history, even outside of his natural height and weight. Combine that with a ruthless nature and elite fighting skills, as well as D'Onofrio's intimidating persona on the screen, and Marvel fans have an antagonist that truly scares anybody he towers over. ADVERTISEMENT Upon the conclusion of his first Marvel Studios production, D'Onofrio has had the chance to share developments about how he's approaching the chara

To finish off its 2021 slate of projects, Marvel Studios ended the year with the conclusion of Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye series on Disney+, and it came with some huge reveals in Episode 6. Much of this centered around the long-awaited debut of Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin, who is now officially MCU canon after the actor reprised the role he made so popular in Netflix's Daredevil from 2015 to 2018. D'Onofrio spent the entire season subtly-but-not-so-subtly teasing that his Wilson Fisk was the man behind all the mayhem, which came as early as Episode 3 with Maya Lopez's mysterious uncle from the flashback sequence. Episode 5 fully revealed that the Kingpin existed in the MCU thanks to a grainy cell phone picture alongside Eleanor Bishop, and with that, the game officially changed. ADVERTISEMENT In D'Onofrio's one episode where he got to shine as Kingpin, one aspect of his character that brought mixed reactions from fans was t

Hawkeye featured many interesting characters across the MCU, but one of the most highly-anticipated returns was Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk a.k.a. Kingpin. The Marvel villain first made his presence felt during the three seasons of Daredevil from Netflix, going up against Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock. After seemingly being defeated in the Netflix show, Kingpin made his triumphant comeback in Hawkeye to spell trouble for Jeremy Renner's Clint Barton and Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop. D'Onofrio's arrival in Hawkeye was long rumored, but many fans were still surprised by his appearance. As a result, Kingpin served as the main subject of discussion among Marvel fans on social media.  ADVERTISEMENT One of the questions surrounding Kingpin's return is his connections to the larger MCU and ties to Netflix's Daredevil.  D'Onofrio clarified the confusion by saying that he believes that it's the same character, but

Marvel Studios is officially finished with its entire 2021 release slate in theaters and on Disney+, which just concluded with the sixth and final episode of the streaming series Hawkeye . Jeremy Renner's solo series took some bold steps in that last entry, with Clint Barton and Kate Bishop tackling the Tracksuit Mafia while also delivering a full MCU debut for Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin from the Netflix series Daredevil . D'Onofrio had spent most of the few weeks prior to his MCU debut hinting at his imminent arrival through cryptic social media posts and mysterious teases through interviews on the subject. Now that the powerful villain is fully engrained into the fabric of the MCU, the opportunity to explore his backstory and history more deeply is now present, even with the show's ending placing him in a precarious situation. Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye turned out to be a welcome surprise to many. The Disney+ series offered up an exciting, fun, and emotional Christmas tale which critics and fans seemingly adored. The world got to meet Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop, who teamed up with her childhood hero, Clint Barton, as the two tried to mop up their mess in time for the holidays. The cherry on top? The show paved the way for Vincent D’Onofrio’s return as Wilson Fisk, aka the Kingpin. The character was last seen on Netflix’s Daredevil , a series that was canceled back in 2018. Marvel Studios officially completed its 2021 slate of projects that kicked off Phase 4 of the MCU in December, finishing with the sixth and final episode of Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye on Disney+. The series delivered exciting new reveals on a weekly basis, with characters like Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova and Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin making a massive impact on a relatively grounded MCU story. As is the case with every Marvel Studios entry, Hawkeye was shrouded in secrecy to make sure that the show's classic MCU-level reveals made the most impact possible with each week's adventures. Even with fans well aware of roles for Yelena and Kingpin along with the presence of Alaqua Cox's Echo and the Tracksuit Mafia, Marvel found a way to keep Hawkeye 's secrets largely under wraps until they premiered in full. Kingpin made his MCU debut near the end of  Hawkeye , with actor Vincent D'Onofrio returning to play the character. D'Onofrio famously portrayed the character in Netflix's  Daredevil  series from 2016-2018, and with Disney and Marvel Studios now owning the rights to Kingpin, it was only a matter of time before he was brought into the interconnected universe. Kingpin's presence in  Hawkeye  was largely behind the scenes, as his character was only mentioned first during the ending of Episode 5 when he was shown on-screen through a phone belonging to Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop. The season finale, however, showcased D'Onofrio in full form, opening with a menacing conversation between himself and Vera Farmiga's Eleanor Bishop and then later showing him in action facing off with Kate.
