Moon Knight Premiere Outperforms WandaVision & Other Marvel Shows

Image
Marvel Studios made its long-awaited return to Disney+ last week with the premiere of  Moon Knight . The Oscar Isaac-led show is not only the first Marvel Cinematic Universe project of the new year, but it is also the first time the MCU has introduced a rookie character in their own self-titled streaming series. Even without apparent ties to the greater cinematic universe, interest in the Marvel freshman is high. That intrigue has been building for months. The first official  Moon Knight  trailer shattered  WandaVision 's record for most likes on YouTube, amassing over 240,000 more than Elizabeth Olsen's solo series. Within four days, the trailer had totaled over one million thumbs up. ADVERTISEMENT While the show's overall performance remains to be seen, the premiere episode of  Moon Knight  continued its hot streak in a big way. How Moon Knight's Premiere Sets Up Hulk's Cameo

Image
Moon Knight  finds itself in a spot Marvel Studios has not been in since its inception. Leading man Oscar Isaac has called his solo series the Marvel Cinematic Universe's "first legitimate character-study"  since 2008's  Iron Man . Beyond that,  Moon Knight  is also expected to largely operate as a standalone series, as executive producer Grant Curtis has noted the show has  "no attachment to the current MCU." Warning - The rest of this article contains spoilers from Episode 1 of Moon Knight. ADVERTISEMENT The debut installment of  Moon Knight  exemplified exactly what Isaac and Curtis were saying about the series. Episode 1 follows a frantic Steven Grant as he attempts to navigate everyday life despite his fragile mind. That everyday life has the gift shop employee in London, England, a distant 3,459 miles from the MCU's capital city in New York. While Grant has no shortage of supporting characters, all of them are fello...

Marvel Reveals Scrapped Ant-Man Easter Egg In WandaVision Premiere

Image
It's been more than a year since  WandaVision  kicked off this new streaming era for the MCU, and, in some cases, fans are still reeling from the series. The Wanda-centric adventure through sitcom history also served as Marvel Studios' first dip into the world of Disney+. It jump-started a franchise that had been dormant for more than a year at that time, laying the seeds for what Phase 4 of the MCU will be all about.  The show tore the very fabric of reality as Wanda Maximoff took over a small New Jersey town, creating her own little Multiversal bubble to mourn her recently deceased lover, Vision. A part of this personalized pocket of Marvel magic (aka the Hex) were a couple of in-universe commercials.  ADVERTISEMENT These Hex-based advertisements were some of the most confusing elements of  WandaVision, serving as teases that something bigger may have been at play. These ads gave fans plenty to chew on with each episode and held plenty of Easte...

Which Marvel, Star Wars & DC Trailers Will Premiere at Super Bowl 2022?

Image
Beyond being the culmination of the NFL season, the Super Bowl is a golden opportunity for Hollywood to advertise its most-anticipated upcoming films to the largest television audience of the year. Professional football's grandest stage has been the most sought after promotional day for decades, and many studios fast-track their marketing campaigns to ensure their blockbusters' first looks are seen by the all-but-guaranteed nine-figure viewership. Marvel, DC, and Star Wars were fairly tame at last year's big game, with only the MCU's  The Falcon and the Winter Soldier  debuting new footage. Considering the COVID-19 climate in February 2021, the Anthony Mackie-led streaming series was just about the only project guaranteed to meet its release date on Disney's slate. The House of Mouse's theatrical concerns were validated just a month later, as  Black Widow  was delayed for the third and final time to July 2021. ADVERTISEMENT Since ...

New Theory Reveals Likely Premiere Window

While Eternals saw a fairly tame box office return and quite the polarizing reception from fans, Chloé Zhao's Marvel Studios directorial debut   planted the seeds for galactic consequences on a scale hitherto undreamt of. The film concluded with Gemma Chan's Sersi and company defying the Celestial gods by purposefully preventing the Emergence, an event that would have destroyed Earth and killed all of its inhabitants. Oh, and Harry Styles debuted as Eros. Eternals  has not seen a #MakeTASM3 or #ReleaseTheSnyderCut demand from fans for a sequel, but all narrative signs indicate one is on the way. Even if the immortal ensemble isn't as big of a box office draw as the Spider-Mans and Captain Americas of the MCU, Marvel Studios has made enough billion-dollar flicks to prioritize some storylines over profits. ADVERTISEMENT That said, the status of an  Eternals 2  remains unknown. Star Angelina Jolie has spoken definitively about  "the sequel...
