Spider-Man’s Andrew Garfield Announces He’s Taking a Break From Movies

Image
Spider-Man: No Way Home may have cracked open the Marvel Multiverse; but in this reality, Andrew Garfield has been at the center due to his roles in The Eyes of Tammy Faye , Tick, Tick... Boom! , and, of course,  Spider-Man: No Way Home . Following the latter film's release, the fan demand to revive The Amazing Spider-Man franchise dominated social media and was even acknowledged by Sony's social team.   Fans aren't the only ones eager for more of Garfield's web-slinger. The MCU's current Spider-Man, Tom Holland, has also given his "full support." The question, however, was whether both Sony and Garfield were interested.  ADVERTISEMENT When asked about his potential return, The Amazing Spider-Man star claimed that there were "No plans, that's the truth," while also acknowledging the fact that no one would believe him after his viral denials of being in  No Way Home .  However, following Sony's lack of

Benedict Cumberbatch Calls Out Spider-Man’s Mistake In No Way Home

At the core of speculation from both before and after the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home is Doctor Strange's botched spell. While audiences know it led to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spider-Men, along with their slew of web-slinging baddies, coming into the MCU, the question remains as to whether other Multiversal events are to blame? Or whether Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, is responsible for breaking the Multiverse. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is expected to answer these questions; and from what fans have seen from the trailers and TV spots, the leading theory is that the former Sorcerer Supreme will be held accountable for his recklessness in the Spidey threequel.  ADVERTISEMENT However, Doctor Strange's own Benedict Cumberbatch has a different take on the matter and a tease or two about what audiences can expect from his upcoming film.  Cumberbatch Defends Strange & Points to Spider-Man's M

Aaron Taylor-Johnson Breaks Silence on Playing Spider-Man's Kraven the Hunter

Ahead of the theatrical release of Jared Leto's Morbius , and on the heels of Spider-Man: No Way Home , Sony has announced its next live-action film for its ever-expanding Spider-Verse: Kraven the Hunter . This Spidey villain is one that fans have wanted to see for some time; and for the title role, Sony went with a comic book film veteran in Aaron Taylor-Johnson.  In addition to his role in Kick-Ass , Aaron Taylor-Johnson's last Marvel role was as Wanda Maximoff's brother, Pietro/Quicksilver, in Marvel Studios' Avengers: Age of Ultron . Interestingly enough, Pietro served as a threat to the Avengers for a considerable part of that film. Will his new character of Kraven follow suit in the upcoming film, particularly in terms of Tom Holland's web-slinger? ADVERTISEMENT For now, that remains to be seen. However, Taylor-Johnson did open up about being cast as the comic book baddie to none other than cinema's second-ever, live-action

Spider-Man's Kraven Spin-off Movie Casts West Side Story Actress

Sony is coming out of 2021 on a massive high note thanks to how successful its latest Spider-Man film has been.  No Way Home  completely smashed records, despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and became one of the biggest movies of all time. Not only that, but it has continued to outdo  Avengers: Endgame , this time with digital pre-orders (per Vudu). Given all of that, the studio's efforts with its own connected cinematic universe have seen far more movement in the wake.  Venom  has a third film in development,  Madame Web  finally got a leading actress in the form of Dakota Johnson, and  Morbius  might actually come out. ADVERTISEMENT One of Sony's biggest, however, is  Kraven the Hunter . The project will follow one of Spider-Man's biggest villains, likely showcasing an origin story of some sort—though, next to no official details are known. Aaron Taylor-Johnson is cast as the titular character, while Fred Hechinger recently came aboard

Russell Crowe Takes Double-Dip Into Marvel, Joins Spider-Man's Kraven Movie

Following Sony Pictures’ double dose of success with October’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage and December’s Spider-Man: No Way Home , the studio is looking to build its Spider-verse in a big way. After Morbius ’ release in April, next on the list for Sony’s Spider-Man Universe is Kraven The Hunter , which will bring one of Spidey’s most powerful villains into live-action for the first time. Set for release in January 2023, Kraven the Hunter is still in the early stages of development as part of Sony’s growing superhero movie slate. ADVERTISEMENT Rumors have pointed to this movie introducing major players like Chameleon and Calypso into the narrative, which all comes with the potential to see Spider-Man actually play a role in this universe as well. How this connects with Sony's other anti-heroes in Venom and Morbius remains to be seen, but the potential for this universe to expand is certainly coming to light. For the past couple of months, Aaron Ta

MCU Writers Explain How Spider-Man's Origin Story Is 'Born In the Blood' of Aunt May

Image
Spider-Man: No Way Home served as the culmination of Peter Parker's origin story in the MCU, which is a unique approach since it happened throughout three movies. Tom Holland's Peter Parker made his debut during Captain America: Civil War , with the young hero already suited up as Spider-Man. Since then, the character's solo movies, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home , dove deep into the hero's dynamic with MCU mainstays such as Tony Stark and Nick Fury (Talos) while still developing the web crawler's heroic transition.  Far From Home 's ending created a massive shift in Peter's life as his secret identity was revealed to the rest of the world by Mysterio. As a result,  No Way Home completely changed the game as it introduced Peter to the biggest mission of his superhero life.  ADVERTISEMENT From unveiling the Multiverse to the film becoming a celebration of all things Spider-Man, No Way Home still managed

Spider-Man's Madame Web Spin-Off Movie Gets Promising Update

Sony Pictures is in the midst of a theatrical Spider mania across the globe. Not only is  Spider-Man: No Way Home  breaking records worldwide, but the studio also has plans to re-release last year's  Venom: Let There Be Carnage  to further satiate Spidey fans. And that isn't all. Sony has made it well-known that it plans to continue its efforts to expand its theatrical wall-crawling horizons by exploring characters elsewhere in the Spider-Verse, like Kraven the Hunter, Morbius, and Madame Web.  This mindset of keeping Peter Parker proper in the MCU while exploring solo movies centered on characters of the wider Spidey canon has proven fruitful for Sony Pictures thus far, with the  Venom  franchise being a resounding success.  ADVERTISEMENT Of these spin spinoffs, one of the most mysterious has been the  Madame Web  movie by filmmaker S.J. Clarkson. The project still has not made any casting announcement public, but names like Charlize Theron and

After the staggering commercial successes of  Venom: Let There Be Carnage  and  Spider-Man: No Way Home  in addition to the upcoming release of Morbius , Sony Pictures is riding a superhero high. Luckily for the studio, it has several projects in development for the Sony Spider-Man Universe, including the Olivia Wilde-directed  Spider-Woman  movie and Aaron Taylor-Johnson's  Kraven the Hunter  film. The move to pursue the classic Spider-Man villain in his own solo flick surprised many, especially when word spread by Tom Holland that Kraven was intended to feature in  No Way Home  if the Multiversal plans fell through. Even more surprising was the casting of the lead star himself, with Taylor-Johnson making the hop from his superheroic role of Quicksilver to another. ADVERTISEMENT Little is known about the film's narrative, but rumblings indicate that comic book characters Chameleon and Calypso will be included in the feature. Now, more rumors pr
