Spider-Man's Madame Web Spin-Off Movie Gets Promising Update
Sony Pictures is in the midst of a theatrical Spider mania across the globe. Not only is Spider-Man: No Way Home breaking records worldwide, but the studio also has plans to re-release last year's Venom: Let There Be Carnage to further satiate Spidey fans. And that isn't all. Sony has made it well-known that it plans to continue its efforts to expand its theatrical wall-crawling horizons by exploring characters elsewhere in the Spider-Verse, like Kraven the Hunter, Morbius, and Madame Web.
This mindset of keeping Peter Parker proper in the MCU while exploring solo movies centered on characters of the wider Spidey canon has proven fruitful for Sony Pictures thus far, with the Venom franchise being a resounding success.

Of these spin spinoffs, one of the most mysterious has been the Madame Web movie by filmmaker S.J. Clarkson. The project still has not made any casting announcement public, but names like Charlize Theron and Sandra Bullock have both been rumored to be taking on the titular role.
Despite this general lack of info regarding Madame Web, it may not be all that long before audiences see the character hit the big screen.
Madame Web Possibly Filming in 2022
According to known insider Charles Murphy, Sony Pictures' Spider-Man spin-off Madame Web could be filming in 2022.

In a tweet, Murphy said that "Sony is planning to get Madame Web going this year." He also mentioned that the studio has" a location [in mind] but no dates" have been set.
Also sounds like Sony is planning to get Madame Web going this year. Have a location but no dates yet. I'll update when I have all the details.
Spinning a Spider's Web
While this is not a confirmation that Madame Web is coming imminently, it does mean it could be a lot closer than was initially thought. The project has been gestating for quite some time now, and it has been nearly two years since director S.J. Clarkson signed onto the project.

For many, Madame Web has fallen in the Silk category of projects, with fans questioning, despite an announcement of these projects, if they would in fact ever make it to the finish line. Now, while Silk is still a question mark, it seems as though Madame Web is moving along the factory line.
And with that movement, it feels like one can start to put together a bit of a timeline for what Sony has in store for the next couple of years of the Sony Spider-Man Universe (SSMU). So far, for 2022, the studio seems to have Morbius and Across the Spider-Verse: Part One planned. Does this mean a 2023 release date for Kraven and Madame Web could be a reality?
If, in fact, Madame Web does lock-in production dates for later in the year, then a fall 2023 release for the project does not sound all that crazy. And if filming is set to begin sooner rather than later, that means Sony has likely completed casting for the film and is holding on to those names until the right time.

There are plenty of blanks for Madame Web to fill before it hits theaters, and surely some of those checkpoints have been and will be marred by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
So for now, all fans can do is sit tight and wait for more from the SSMU.
